Talking Shapes

Talking Shapes

In the act of painting there is a certain rhythm that takes place, similar to that of a leaf that falls off the willow tree. It does not fall off in winter, spring, or summer, it falls off at the perfect moment in Autumn. It is like this in every action of life, when a process is fully accepted without forecasting thoughts into the past or future, an experience of vitality occurs. Spontaneity is at the heart of every human’s capability and the more someone can learn to trust it, the more someone can experience an increasing liberation of life force energy.

When painting, I have experienced a certain rhythm that takes place. Time disrupts this rhythm. Any thoughts of where I must be during the day is contrary to what I am talking about because having a plan is running on the rhythm of mind rather than the heart. Our hearts are the inspirational center and the heart does not run on the mental construct of time which is why no one can predict when inspiration will strike.

Through my pieces, I convey the beauty of a creative practice that is free from time objectives or pressure. I am inspired by the ancient Taoist philosophy of ‘wu wei’, which means, “to embrace flow rather than effort to achieve a result.” I believe in the beneficial nature that these timeless, spontaneous and non-forceful ways could have for the artist and society as a whole.

Often abstract art doesn’t reveal its nature until completion and its interpretation continues to change. Creating abstract works unveil the deepest parts of a subconscious mind and is also in part a reflection of society at the given time. This piece reflects a time when movement was neither rushing nor dragging. A continuous moment of talking shapes.
